 CORPORATE PHILOSOPHY

If there is a single precept to which we dedicate ourselves, it is that of excellence in our attitude. Excellence in our performance. Excellence in our interrelationships with each other and our clients.

This dedication does not come without awareness or effort. Every decision, every action, every result must be weighed consciously; and often with painful discipline. The risks are also great, for when one emulates Excellence, he or she does so with the full realization that he or she may not be up to the task at the present time—there is no assurance of success. However, we feel the reward is worth the gamble, and so we persist.

To understand what we are striving for, one must first understand how we define Excellence. To us, Excellence is the pursuit of the possible. Not what is possible given the weaknesses and limitations of the human condition, but what is possible given the remarkable achievements of human innovation, discipline and the intensity of purpose—the extraordinary results of human dedication to an idea, a principle, a pragmatic objective. Human beings are fully capable of achieving extraordinary results if they are given, and accept, extraordinary things to do.

Given this understanding, we then attempt to define Excellence in a more pragmatic manner, as the pursuit of the possible, as it applies to the development of a business enterprise.

Lest we forget, we are in business. And the development of our business is our sole purpose for coming together. Any added benefits derived from this activity are certainly welcomed; however, anything that detracts from that purpose is not. Our objective is simply stated:
“A PROFITABLE, WELL-ORGANIZED, HIGHLY INNOVATIVE BUSINESS WHICH DOES WHAT IT DOES THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY IT CAN BE DONE.”

We call this approach Pragmatic idealism. Pragmatic because it deals with real-world needs of food, shelter and clothing. Idealistic, because it deals with the most exhilarating aspects of the human condition—the need and ability to persist; while most others, given the same opportunity, simply settle for a less traumatic, more comfortable existence.

Don’t misunderstand; this is not meant to be a paean to the work ethic or to the trauma with which one is bound to be confronted when attempting the very difficult. It is rather an honest recognition of it; a dutiful resignation to the need to go through it if one truly desires to come out the other end. In short, it is a recognition of the fact that one must “pay one’s dues” if anything of lasting value is to be achieved.

The difficulty is that most of us do not thoroughly understand the implications of that statement, “paying one’s dues.” Most of us are attracted by the light at the end of the tunnel but the moment the going gets tough, we back out rather than crawl forward. There is one intense moment in that process when it becomes clear to us—however fleetingly—that we do have a choice. And it is in this conscious moment when we more fully than ever face the implications of our intent, either choosing to soar by paying the dues of crawling forward, or the alternative of comfort, by backing out the way we came in.

Unfortunately, it’s not an easy choice. For more often than not, the moment of decision comes do quickly and so disarmingly that we are not even aware we decided anything. The feet get to moving, so to speak, and we’re back out before we even recognize that the moment of choice has already passed us by, So be it.

We’ve all been guilty of it; we’ve all been known to fail the test. But, if soaring is our true objective, then we must again put on the blinders and try again.

Otherwise the failure becomes a way of life. Cynicism sets in. Anarchy becomes an attractive alternative to order. Narcissism and vanity, self indulgence and childishness becomes the order of the day. We’ve all seen it. We’re surrounded with the evidence of it daily. And it’s not an attractive sight.

TO THE BUSINESS AT HAND:

We consider ourselves to be specialist in our field. We take our work seriously, provide quality and service and hard work to reach the objectives we have established for ourselves. It is therefore incumbent upon you to understand this dedication, and share in it, if your own personal objectives are to be realized, and if your position agreement with the firm is to be more than just a paper document. If it does, and if you’re willing, we commit ourselves both as individuals and as a firm to assist you in reaching your objective, on the way to reaching ours.

COMPANY HISTORY

The company was founded by Steven P. Kaufman in October 1976. With the help of his wife Vickie, and the pressures of a new son and mortgage, they turned a spare bedroom into an office, bought a used portable carpet cleaning machine and were in business

The company grew rapidly, even without any capital investment. The enthusiasm and energy put into the venture guaranteed its success. As the company grew, it became more and more difficult to find the support services needed to develop the company and its technologies to the degree of professionalism Mr. Kaufman desired. The local janitorial supply houses were not able, nor did they appear to have the desire, to aid the rapidly growing carpet cleaning industry with the new developments in equipment, chemicals and techniques that were becoming available.

At this point, Mr. Kaufman decided to make these technologies available to professional carpet cleaners. He believed there would be a profit in doing so. However, manufacturers and other experts in the field had never been able to develop their marketing by using distributors; but rather had been marketing directly to the end user. This method has its obvious drawbacks but is still widely used today.

Mr. Kaufman believed he could further develop distribution of selected manufactured products through the proper orchestration of sale and service centers and that these centers would boost professionalism within the industry. After several years of plowing new ground, developing new relationships and proving to both suppliers and users there was a need for this service, Pro Line established a new position in the industry and created demand by both manufacturers and users.

Within three years, Mr. Kaufman sold the carpet cleaning business and dedicated himself to the task of supplying, servicing and training the professional carpet cleaner

The original office became the franchise prototype and the reliability of its systems and procedures have been proven through the successful operation of duplicate outlets.

In 1986, Pro Line believed it could market franchises in California, offering an opportunity to people desiring a proven method of income in a rapidly growing industry that is crying out for service. By exact duplication of proven systems, Pro Line can fill the gap between technology and technician.

However, by 1989 this plan failed as it was proven financially unworkable.

In 1992 Noel Saenz came to work at Pro Line as an apprentice mechanic. It didn’t take long for Mr. Saenz’s talents became obvious and he rapidly moved up the company ladder. After just a few short years he achieved the ultimate reward for his efforts and became part owner of the company.

Today Pro Line is one of the largest distributors of carpet cleaning equipment in USA, and with always in mind with a high customer service to its value customers.
